The largest and longest festival in La Nucia takes place in August in honor of the holy Maria (la Asuncion de la Madre de Dios). It is a giant spectacle of 4 days. In the evening of the 14 of August the church bell anounces the beginning: in the church, that is decorated with flowers, a fair takes place that is established and held by the village children. The next day about noon, 7 canon shots initiate the incredible move. A 2 meter figure representing Maria is carried through the streets. On the last day, the festival is concluded by a ceremony from the oldest of the villages on the market place. This festival is a real Insider tip. The last festival in the year is dedicated to the holy Rafael (Fiesta de San Rafael). It takes place on the third Sunday in November. This time a little tent is set up on the market place. At noon a joint prayer and an incredible banquet takes place. An unforgettable experience for everybody in La Nucia. |
